Friday, May 9th. 5:25 am. Falls Church, Va

Some heavy rain in the area all night. It looks like we got lucky with the weather at our reunion. When we left yesterday it was raining and looking at the weather channel, it pretty much rained all day in Williamsburg.

On the way to Falls Church we made a short stop at the Shirley Plantation, it is Virginia's first plantation (1613)

Evie & I are going to take the Metro downtown (Wash. DC) this morning and visit the WWII Memorial and then the Smithsonian. A family BBQ on Sat. and then to Wallingford, CT. on Sunday.

May 8th:    The Reunion has come to an end.  Some left for home yesterday and this morning the rest of us will say good by to Williamsburg. To start out, the first thing I have to say is. WOW!  It was one of the best, if not the best. The banquet was a blast. Great food, the DJ had everyone jumping around until the end. (They said I did the Worm on the floor and there are pics to proof it) If this is true I will post them.

Yesterday we had the 2nd annual USS POWER Golf tournament, 18 holes. Guest, Jay Walker won. Shipmate, Mike Farrens won the membership division. I will be posting some photos soon.

John Pinto led a small group on a wine tour at a local vineyard and they said it was a good time.

The USS POWER Winos

There are some mini camera film of the 2 bell ceremony and Kay Pinto receiving a plaque for outstanding service for the reunions the past 12 years. I haven't had a chance to look at them yet, but hope to have them up on U-Tube next week.

The tour of the Navy Base at Norfolk brought back some good memories. There were some modern ships in port, but we were all disappointed that all the Super Carriers were all on deployment.

Today Evie and I are headed for 3 days in the DC area, and then to Ct.

I want to give a big salute of thanks to reunion chairman John Pinto for another outstanding time.

There is a lot to write about the reunion and photos to post. I should have time once we settle down. It was a whirle-wind time there.

USS POWER Associations youngest member, Lou Comito ( Rocky ) joined in 2004 and attended the Savannah, Ga. reunion. Rocky won the 50/50 and donated it back into the Treasury. He served aboard as MS 3 from 75 until the ship was decommissioned in 1977.

Rocky became sick and had  to move upstate New York and wasn't able to attend any reunions. His message to his shipmates is, "he loves you all and wishes he could attend the 08 reunion." he has no computer at this time.

There is a little more about Rocky here

Anyone wanting to contact Lou, send a letter or some photos of past reunions here is his info.
