Hoover Dam Ground

There are 17 main turbines

Overhead Cable Ways

There were a total of nine of these cable ways used to place the concrete. Five of the cable ways were connected to moveable towers, which allowed them to be repositioned to work on different parts of the dam when necessary

Hoover Dam From Ground Level

Hoover Dam is concrete; and without concrete, this dam could not have been built. 3,250,000 cu.yd. were placed in the dam itself, and another million plus yards in the appurtenant works.

The Dam is 726.4 feet from foundation rock to the roadway on the crest of the dam. The towers and ornaments on the parapet rise 40 feet above the crest. And weighs more than 6,600,000 tons.

This is the State line for Arizona & Nevada.  When I shot this photo my left foot was in Arizona and right in Nevada.  The temperature was the same in both states. 109f  They had record heat the week of the reunion. Two days the record was tied at 110f  Lake Mead in the background

High - Scalers

Millions of years of weather eroded the canyon walls. Water froze in cracks and crevices, splitting the rock. Before construction could begin on the dam, this loose rock had to be removed. Special men were required for the job, men called "High-Scalers."
